The Exit
The Exit
One of my most favorite things to find is a scene reeking with the evidence of personality expressed. I am fascinated by us humans. We are so odd. Everywhere we go, we leave evidence of having been there. Unconsciously for sure, and often intentionally deliberate, like ancient cave drawings. These scenes cry out to passersby.
In this image, The Exit, for example... What??
Like a rambling archeologist, I found this scene, in public view, in the yard of a private home in Murphy, North Carolina. It is easy to miss evidence like this, dismiss it, ignore it, not appreciate it. Yet, someone, for some reason, put a lot of energy into creating it. I wonder who. I wonder why? Symbols of symbols, intended to convey what? How long did it take to cut out the goat, to paint it, to build its platform, and to affix it to that spot? And the goat's eye!
And then, the real question, the question behind the question: when I think I have understood the communication intended for me to grasp, to connect me with another soul, did I? Or, do I only hear my voice, ascribing my meaning, on to the evidence presented before me?
It is only a piece of wood, in reality, after all.
