Washington Georgia, March New-Growth
Washington, Georgia, March New-Growth
I've titled this one based on where and when I made it. I was on a road trip with a photographer friend. We drove out from Atlanta. North-Westerly, to Washington, Georgia. Washington began as Heard's Fort in 1744, and my traveling companion can trace his ancestors to the region before even then. On February 14, 1779, at Heard's Fort, The Battle of Kettle Creek was fought and won by the American Patriots, taking 75 prisoners and killing roughly 70 Loyalists while losing 32 Patriots.
About this photograph
"Washington, Georgia, March New-Growth" is a photograph of what was not there. These trees lined a drive to a farm or plantation long gone; only woods, brush, and field. I shot into the sun to capture the ethereal quality of the light, which was enticing me to an unreachable destination in time. The time of year was early spring, and I loved, and used, the warm sunshine -backlighting the tiny pink blossoms to enhance the warm, friendly mood of the scene.
